The tower and office building constructed by SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd on the territory of Batumi International Airport in 2007 was put into service in April 2008. It is equipped with all the necessary facilities required for the flight safety ensuring. This fact has great significance for the development of economy in the country, since both domestic and international flights can be operated to/from the aerodrome. It will also encourage tourism by making the important seaside resorts of the country much easier to reach by foreign tourists. In addition, the location of International Airport is attractive and beneficial for the neighbouring countries, especially for Turkey, as this airport is the most affordable and at the same time the easiest solution for reducing the travelling distance for those residents, who live close to the Georgian State border.
The tower has been equipped with DTR-100 digital radio stations supporting 8,33kHz channel-spacing and VDL-2 mode. They are produced by the Italian company OTE (now the SELEX communication) and provide fast and reliable air-ground communication, thus significantly enhancing the quality of services provided by SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd. The tower controller working positions are equipped with radar data displaying facilities produced by the Czech company ELDIS (which are only used by controllers for information). The aerodrome is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and a non-directional radio beacon (NDB). The ground-ground communications at the aerodrome are carried out by means of MOTOROLA radio stations. A new automatic digital telephone station has been installed and it fully meets the current needs of SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd. This station provides backup communication lines with the air traffic controllers of the neighbouring countries, ensuring continuous, high quality, and speedy communication as required by ICAO.
The installation of a runway lighting system carried out by SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd is also worth giving emphasis to. The lighting equipment was purchased by SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd from the Czech company AFL IMPEX, the company producing and supplying many countries with runway and navigation technologies. At present, the installation of the centreline lights, produced by the Italian company O.C.E.M., has been successfully completed. In difficult landing conditions, the lighting system helps pilots to observe the runway and provides them with additional information, thus ensuring a high level of flight safety and efficiency. In cooperation with the Israeli company Y.T.S. all strategic facilities were equipped with security systems allowing of their constant monitoring.
The personnel of SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd in Batumi International Airport consists of highly qualified professionals who received an international requirements compliant abinitio and upgrading training in SAKASTAC, a joint training centre founded by ASTAC Ltd and SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd.
Kutaisi (Kopitnari)
Kutaisi International Airport is located 8NM from Kutaisi, which is the second biggest city in Georgia.
It operates 24 hours and has one-runway configuration with one apron and 6 stands.The length of the runway is 2500 m. It is not equipped with an Instrument Landing System. Only NDB, NDB + DME and visual approaches can be performed at the aerodrome.
The modernization project of the Kutaisi International Airport has been launched and it will include:
- Construction of a new terminal.
- a New tower (civil works have now started).
- New ATC system.
- Reconstruction of the runway including new RW lights equipment.
In accordance with the modernization project, SAKAERONAVIGATSIA Ltd. is going to invite specialists who will elaborate the Minimum Safe Altitude pattern for Kutaisi aerodrome area, as well as new separated standard departure and arrival routes.
